Top 4 Article Directories to Submit Your Content To

Back in 2007 I wrote a post about article submission being a poor SEO tactic. Since then the article has had about 5,000 visitors that mainly came from Google and it’s still getting good traffic now. Because it has been so popular I just gave it a bit of an update and added information about how to submit to article directories and which ones to use.
Over the years I have been screwed over in various ways by a few directories such as Article Alley, Articles Base and Isnare, the 1st two added nofollow to my author signature links and Isnare took a payment from me for a featured submission and then never published it or got back to me when I emailed.
Anyway, fortunately there are a handful of decent general article directories that you can rely on, here are my top 4:
1/ Ezine Articles is the best article directory on the web, it has good standards, a PageRank 6/10 and currently, according to Alexa it’s the 185th most popular site on the web. The site is very easy to use, just click onto submit articles and follow instructions to get started.
2/ My 2nd favourite article directory is Buzzle, I have been an author there for over a year now, my articles are usually published within 24 hours and indexed by Google in no time. The site has a PageRank score of 5/10 and it’s Alexa rank is in the top 2,000. You have to apply to get accepted as an author at Buzzle and it can take a few weeks, but IMO it’s worth the wait.
3/ Another great article site is Go Articles, it’s ran by the Jayde Online Network, it has a Google PageRank of 6/10 and its Alexa score is inside the top 3,500. Submitting is a piece of cake, click on submit articles and then fill in the register as a new member form to get started. Articles are published fast, usually in less then a week.
4/ Article Dashboard is a mother of an article directory with, according to siteexplorer nearly 4,000,000 links that have come from other article directories using their script. The site has a Google PageRank score of 4/10 and its Alexa traffic rank is about 5,000. Click on the sign up link in the top right hand corner, follow instructions and start submitting your content.
Make sure you read our article submission blog post before you start using these sites, if done correctly and in moderation article submission can be a good small part of your link building and SEO strategy.
FYI: I think the UK needs a really good article directory so I have just registered OriginalArticles.co.uk and I plan to launch that in the next month or so.

@Barry A little bit of both I would say, I have tried most of the big general article sites and these were the ones I found to be best for SEO and traffic.

I have great success with ArticlesBase.com. EzineArticles.com and ArticlesBase.com consistently get my articles to page one of Google Search Results.
One word of warning, post to EzineArticles.com first and wait until the article is approved there before you to go ArticlesBase.com. ArticlesBase.com approves articles so quickly, spammers cut&paste them and then EzineArticles.com could reject you for duplicate content.

@Barry Normally, a decent amount of traffic usually brings a high PR. As high PR is good for SEO, those four article directories are great for both traffic and SEO.

You will only need to invest some of your time to write a nice article and a little more time to submit it to article directories.

These are best article directories but Buzzel ( Very good one ) accept only unique content ,http://www.articlesbase.com/ also deserve a place but one got less traffic from articles .

This is a new article directory that’s recently been launched, and one which seems to have some potential. There are too many article directories around which are only in it for the adsense revenue and will accept any old rubbish given.
The directory I linked to – http://netpressarticles.com – seems to be a lot more stringent about what it will accept. I’ve tried it with several articles, all of which (deliberately, to test them) failed at least 1 of their guidelines. Every one was thrown out for not meeting guidelines.
Now, it might just be because they’re new and are trying to discourage the spam community, but I think in time if they keep this level of due diligence going then they could rise to the top.
An article directory where only quality articles are published? Who’d have thought it possible!?

I heard one expert say that they completely ignore EzineArticles because they’ve become such a pain. Their advice was to go counterintuitive. For example, watch the herd, then go the other way.
IMHO, I’d say make great content and get a solid reputation on EzineArticles and you won’t get your artcles sent to file 13.

Free article submission is one of the best online marketing stradegies if you limit your submissions to the top 15-25 sites. A wisely structured article can become a PR 2-5 page when submitted to the top article directories.

I have used ezine articles for my website http://www.insurance4all.co.uk but being finance and savings based and therefore highly competitive, I don’t really think the effort it takes to write an article has justified the increase in traffic. I think ezine articles would work better for more niche sites.

If I Submit 1 unique article to 10 directories, it will be treated as duplicate content by directories. Then, the backlinks would not be effective.

Great article. For content driven article syndication, I like to use the likes of ArticleBase.com, EzineArticles.com GoArticles.com and a host of others due to the longer term life-span of the content hosting itself, obviously provided it is high quality and original content to be read by general web surfers on categories of interest. It’s a good strategy to have a mixed profile as we all know. Best of luck all!

Personally my top 3 article directories are Ezinearticles.com, Rysite.com, and GoArticles.com. Those are the ones in which I receive the most traffic, and provide the highest quality backlinks to my site.

Good post, i am now using all 4 of these directories with good results.
Just a word of caution to some readers – focus on developing unique content! “Spun” articles are working less and less.. and churning out a lot of unnatural worded articles may get you into some trouble with Google.
For those who are starting out i would recommend what has worked out good for me- start with 20 keyword articles. Like someone said above make sure and post it to ezinearticles.com FIRST before you add them to the others. Ezine has the most weight w/ Google, and they do not use duplicate content.

I always have a tough time deciding whether to submit my articles to my own site/blog or sending them to an article site.
It becomes increasingly difficult to remain original and non repetitive when approaching similar subjects.
